RDU Aircraft Noise Program
Runway Closure Notice:
Beginning Thursday Dec., 14 at 8:30 a.m. and continuing through Saturday Dec. 16, 2017, the runway close to Terminal 1 (Runway 5R/23L) will be closed for construction. As a result, all jet traffic and much propeller traffic will be diverted to the runway close to Terminal 2 (Runway 5L/23R). The perpendicular runway (Runway 32) will likely experience increased small propeller traffic, weather permitting.
The week of December 18, the runway close to Terminal 2 (Runway 5L/23R) will be closed during daylight hours maintenance reasons. As a result of this maintenance, all jet traffic and much propeller traffic will be diverted to the runway close to Terminal 1 (Runway 5R/23L). The perpendicular runway (Runway 32) will likely experience increased small propeller traffic, weather permitting.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Raleigh-Durham International Airport works with the community to make RDU a better and quieter neighbor.
How do we do that?
- By increasing the number of quieter jets using RDU.
- At RDU's request, air traffic controllers clear jet aircraft to 7,000 feet upon departure and keep inbound jet aircraft at a higher altitude of 8,000 feet until they cross over departing jet aircraft.
- The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority adopted a Noise Abatement Policy that reduced aircraft noise and promotes compatible land uses.
The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority worked responsibly to balance the demand for increased service with the concerns of communities around the airport. Through the cooperative efforts of the Federal Aviation Administration, airlines and the community, we have seen, and more importantly heard, results from our noise abatement efforts.
