Interactive Flight Path Map Instructions

You can use this improved flight path map to determine where jet and propeller flight paths exist in the vicinity of Raleigh-Durham International Airport .

Please use these instructions to familiarize yourself with some of the features of this useful map. For best results, a powerful computer with high speed internet connection is necessary. Lesser systems could cause unsatisfactory results.

The flight paths represent one day of aircraft operations for each operating mode, Runway 05 and Runway 23. Arrivals are represented with blues and greens; departures with pinks and purples. To view the color coded flight paths, simply click on Legend, located on the left hand side of the Flight Path Map screen or refer to the image to the right.

When you click on the link, the map appears. On the left of the map is the tool bar for zoom in, zoom out, move and return to the last result.

To zoom into the area of your interest, select the zoom in tool on the right. Then place the cursor where you want. Click and drag with the left mouse button to create a rectangle enclosing the area of your interest. When you release the mouse button, the map then shows the area of interest. Zoom in as often as necessary. You can use the arrow tools on the left to move around the area.

Select the Runway 05 visible box on the right side. The Runway 05 flight paths appear on the map. Then deselect the Runway 05 visible box and select the Runway 23 visible box. The Runway 23 flight paths appear on the map. You can change between Runway 05 and Runway 23 as often as needed. ALWAYS CHECK BOTH RUNWAY 05 AND RUNWAY 23 FLIGHT PATHS FOR EACH AREA OF INTEREST. The Tips for Homebuyers explains when Runway 05 and Runway 23 modes are in effect.

You can also select Runway 14 and Runway 32 flight paths to view small propeller operations on the short perpendicular runway.

To check other locations around the airport, deselect the Runway 05 or Runway 23 visible box. Click on the global tool on the right. Then start the zoom in process over again. You can always select the Runway 05 or Runway 23 visible box whenever you want to show flight paths.

The closer along a flight path an airplane is to the airport, the lower the airplane is to the ground. The noise of airplanes varies based on engine types and altitude. This flight path map helps you determine where airplanes typically fly. On site observations during each operating mode provide you an opportunity to experience the noise impact.
